The captain and her crewmate Angelique started their show with a sword fight. To help them fight harder and faster, they had the kids chant “fight, fight, fight.”

When the Captain asked Angelique to fix a hole in their ship, Angelique moved pieces of wood around the ship then covered the hole with a treasure chest. Angelique told the Captain not to move the chest.

After the Captain picked up the chest, Angelique ran back and forth screaming.
The Captain asked Angelique what she was doing and Angelique said, “I am acting,” and the captain responded with, “you are acting ridiculous.”

Angelique pointed out they had no special effects budget, so the captain said, “acting it is” then joined Angelique in screaming and running around until a whirlpool knocked them down.

Because the ship was a rental, the captain said she could not go down with the ship and asked Angelique what to do. Angelique’s solution was to get on the book of Faces marketplace and buy a ship that was a fixer upper.

Unfortunately, most of the parts of the ship needed repairs. Angelique told the captain they could use people as ship parts. The captain thought using people as ship parts would be illegal, but Angelique said, “hey, we are pirates. We like illegal.”

Angelique then asked for four volunteers, many kids raised their hands. Angelique chose four enthusiastic volunteers and asked them to put their right hands in the center to make a spoke wheel and move around in a circle. The volunteers were acting as the capstan, which churns the rope to pull up the anchor.

The next two volunteers were asked to face one another and clasp hands then make a seesaw motion. These two were acting as the bilge pump, which pulls the water out of the ship and throws it back into the ocean.

Two final volunteers were chosen. One acted as the sail by holding a small sail. The other one steered the wheel of the ship after claiming she had a driver’s license.

While the kids acted out the various parts of the ship, Angelique sang a song about being a captain saying it was a dream come true. She wanted a dream ship not a steam ship or flag ship. When they sang the song faster, the kids had to move faster.

The captain asked what to do if the kids got tired as they did the work. Angelique said she would give the kids sugar because it would power the ship for three months straight. The captain said some of the parents did not look very excited about sugar.

Next, Angelique and the captain opened the treasure chest, which contained a bunny, large keys, a glass half empty or half full, a rubber chicken and Voodoo mama’s juju beads.

The captain put the beads on and stood on one leg. She asked everyone else to also stand on one leg. The captain then told them put that leg down, turn around three times and bawk like a chicken.

Because the captain did not think the kids were doing well bawking like a chicken, she showed them how to do it. As the captain bawked like a chicken, she had to say, “I want my own ship, I want my own ship.” However, no ship appeared. Angelique said she may have been thinking about a cow instead of a chicken because Chick-fil-a uses cows to advertise their chicken.

Soon, another sword fight began. The captain asked kids their ideas for punishing Angelique. The captain decided to send Angelique to time out in the corner, which was the worst punishment.

When she headed to the corner, Angelique took a treasure map with her. The captain said the treasure map showed where to find Black Bart’s treasure.

The kids were told to jump to the left and hop to the right until it become a habit to find the first clue, use a looking glass to find the next clue and get keys to find the third clue. The captain’s tail was a final clue. They decided to look at books to see if they could find the treasure, but were unable to figure out where the treasure was hidden.

After another sword fight, the captain and Angelique held out mugs and sang a song about the mugs and kids choosing the winner of the sword fight.

The kids were told to yell “whee whee” to vote for Angelique. To vote for the captain, they were to yell “yo ho ho.”

During the sword fight, the captain grabbed a knife and fought with both the knife and sword. Angelique also grabbed a knife to make the fight fair.

The captain and Angelique told the kids not to try anything they had seen in the program.

Once the show was over, kids were able to come pose with the captain and Angelique by the wheel of the ship.

Due to next week being a holiday week, there will be no program Thursday. The Amazing Dudley will provide the program Thursday, July 10 at 10 a.m. in the library annex.
