3rd Friday: Kicks on Route 66

[May 20, 2025]

On Friday, May 16th, Lincoln held its first of three 3rd Fridays Downtown planned for summer 2025. The theme of this particular 3rd Friday was ‘Kicks on Route 66.’ There was live music and plenty of vendors. The temperature was beautiful, but the wind was not. Several of the vendors shared a desire to put up tents over their stands, but the wind kept them from doing so. Regardless, there were many people and families walking the streets and kids running and playing.

On Pulaski Street, half of the road had antique cars parked for people to view. People were encouraged to come up to each vehicle and admire them. Past the car show was some street side seating for people eating food from MKS Livestock or enjoying a beverage from Spirited Republic. At the end of the road, where Pulaski meets S Kickapoo Street, live music was being played.

Turning the corner down S Kickapoo, there were many business vendors set up. Some of the booths on the street included Recovery Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC), Lincoln Community Theater, and the Abraham Lincoln National Railsplitting Society, among many others. Guest House was also open, selling cinnamon rolls and cookies outside their store and serving coffee inside.

On Broadway Street, several more food and vendors were present. Boomer’s BBQ was in their normal spot across from the Lincoln Daily News office. We Three Sweets were also there, caddy-corner to Pat’s Wagon. Further down this street were several games set up for kids such as Froggy Ball and a basketball hoop. There was also a new business there called Straight Up Sips. This business, established in 2024, was both new as a business and to 3rd Fridays this year. Straight Up Sips serves flavored sodas and beverages allowing you to customize it to your liking. The owner, Mckensi Irwin, stated she plans on being back at the next two 3rd Fridays, preferably with a large balloon arch.

The last street, S McLean Street, had only a few vendors set up this time. There was someone painting free henna tattoos, and the line for that was long the whole night. Another business, Tice Family Art, was selling Route 66 magnets, plant starters, and even a giant crocheted chicken.

The next 3rd Friday, the theme being Nashville Nights, will take place on Friday June 20th starting at 5:30 p.m.
