40 & 8 Presents Fourth Nursing Scholarship

[July 01, 2026]

On Monday evening, 40&8 Voiture 985 held its monthly meeting.

Commander Mike Kavanaugh called the meeting to order, and those in attendance stood for the Pledge of Allegiance. Dan Benedict provided the financial report. The members discussed the status of the nursing scholarship program.

Commander Kavanaugh reminded members that they will need workers for their pork chop and ribeye sandwich fundraiser at IGA in Lincoln on Saturday, July 25, starting around 10 a.m. They are still exploring other fundraising ideas. Gene Hickey reminded everyone that the American Legion will hold an Independence Day celebration and grill out after the 4th of July parade in Lincoln.

Commander Kavanaugh next introduced their fourth nursing scholarship recipient, Abigail Goodman. Abigail graduated from Olympia High School and is the daughter of Brett and Jamie Goodman of Atlanta.

Abigail explained that she plans to attend Heartland Community College to earn her associate’s degree in nursing, which she will complete in the spring of 2028. She then plans to continue her nursing education at Heartland or Illinois State University.
