NORMAL, IL, – The Heartland Community
College Student Government Association has named the student
officers who will serve for the 2026-2027 Academic Year.
Student Government Association (SGA) officers are selected by
Heartland Community College students. The Heartland student
executive team consists of:
Mia Lescano will serve as SGA President. Mia, from
Bloomington, is a second-year pre-nursing student at Heartland
Community College and the newly elected President of the Student
Government Association. She has experience serving in student
organizations, including Heartland’s chapter of the Association of
Latin American Students (ALAS).
Luke Deffenbaugh from Normal will serve as Vice President.
Luke is a first-year student studying business and planning to
transfer to a four-year university to pursue finance. He brings
leadership experience from high school and college organizations,
including Future Business Leaders of America, and has worked as a
tutor. As Vice President, Luke looks to expand student events and
ensure the SGA consistently brings meaningful opportunities to
campus.

Chanh Trung Dao will serve as
Chief Officer of Communications. Chanh is an International student
originally from Vietnam and currently residing in Normal. He is a
pre-nursing major who transferred to Heartland in the Fall 2025
term. Chanh is actively involved in the Student Welfare Committee,
the Global Student Union, and volunteers at the School Street
Pantry. Chang grounds his leadership style in advocacy and
collaboration, and works to ensure student voices are clearly
communicated and represented.

Summer Barone, from Lincoln,
will serve as Student Trustee. Summer is a first-year pre-nursing
student at Heartland Community College. Serving as a Heartland
Student Ambassador, she has experience engaging with both Heartland
Main Campus and Lincoln regional campus communities. She is known
for her strong communication skills, approachability, and commitment
to ensuring all students feel heard and represented.
The Student Trustee holds the Board's privileges of membership,
including the right to make and second motions and attend executive
sessions. As a non-voting member, the Student Trustee is not
considered in determining a quorum for Board action.
